Project Updates
Post health check-ins on projects, track status over time, and keep your team informed with notifications.
Project Updates
Project updates let you record periodic health check-ins on your projects. Each update captures the current health status and optional commentary, creating a timeline that shows how a project has progressed over time. Subscribers are automatically notified when a new update is posted.
Health Statuses
Every update includes a health status that reflects the current state of the project:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| On Track | Everything is progressing as expected |
| Needs Attention | Something requires review or a decision |
| Understaffed | The project needs more team members or capacity |
| Off Track | Significant issues that need addressing immediately |
The health status from the most recent update is shown as a flag on the project in the projects list, giving managers a quick overview of project health across the portfolio.
Posting an Update
- Navigate to your project and open the Updates tab
- Select a health status from the dropdown at the top of the feed
- Optionally add a title and body with rich text (supports formatting, @mentions, and images)
- Click Post update
The update appears immediately in the feed, the project's health flag is updated, and all subscribers are notified.
Who can post: Any team member assigned to the project can post updates.
The Updates Feed
The updates feed is a unified timeline that shows:
- Project updates — Health check-ins posted by team members, with author, timestamp, and full commentary
- Activity log — Other project changes like team assignments, date changes, and status transitions
Items are grouped by month for easy scanning. The most recent activity appears at the top.
Subscribing to a Project
Use the bell icon on the project detail page to subscribe or unsubscribe from notifications for that project.
When you're subscribed, you'll receive notifications whenever someone posts a new update. You can control which channels you receive notifications on (in-app, email, or Slack) from your notification settings.
Notifications
When a project update is posted, all subscribers (except the author) are notified through their enabled channels:
- In-app — Appears in your inbox
- Email — Sent to your registered email address
- Slack — Sent to the project's configured Slack channel
Configuring Slack Notifications
Admins can connect a Slack channel to a project for update notifications:
- Open the project detail page
- Click the bell icon to open the subscription panel
- Select a Slack channel from the dropdown (requires Slack integration to be set up)
Once connected, all project update notifications are posted to that channel automatically. See Slack Integration for setup instructions.
Tips
Post updates regularly. Even a quick "On Track" check-in keeps stakeholders informed and builds a useful history.
Use the body for context. The health status is the headline — use the body to explain what's going well, what's blocked, or what decisions are needed.
Subscribe to projects you care about. You don't need to be assigned to a project to subscribe. Stakeholders and leadership can follow any project.
Review the feed before meetings. The timeline gives you a quick summary of recent activity and health changes — useful for standups and client calls.
